Vertigo
PVC Conduit, Heat Shrink Wrap, Projection (2021)
This piece is meant to induce vertigo, forcing viewers to question their perception of physical reality and immerse themselves within the space in order to find a moment of stability. This large sculpture is activated by two separate projections in order to create an immersive installation. The placement of the projections create an illusion of space bending. The shadows that the sculpture creates block out the opposing projection, which then merge and blend with the dueling projection. The sculpture itself is punctured in multiple locations, acting as portals that capture bits of moving light and color. Viewers are able to peek through these voids in order to examine the infrastructure of the sculpture and how the movement of the outside projections interact with the spots of light shining through.
