Limbic Resonance
Slumped Glass, Steel (2020)
Quantum physics describes the term limbic resonance as the deep emotional connections we have with one another through the limbic system in our brain. The limbic system composes the combination of our primitive emotional nature and our higher mental functionality. Essentially, limbic resonance is the ability to unconsciously and internally attune to one another’s emotional being, i.e. a collective unconsciousness. This piece seeks to make visible an idea that affects us all whether or not we’re aware of this collective unconsciousness. While the steel formation expresses the entangled interconnections we have with one another through our limbic system, the color-changing glass forming on top of this system suggests the impact we have on one another mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually. Dichroic glass displays an incredible property in which the vibrant colors shift and transform under different lighting conditions and when observed at different angles. The dynamic colors of the dichroic glass signify the ever-changing emotional states we all feel.
