This interactive and immersive sculpture was created by gutting out the inside of an old CRT television and replacing the glass screen with a protruding glass form. Projected on the screen are two experimental films that get distorted on the landscape of the glass face— suggesting the distortion that mainstream media has created in our everyday lives. The interactive buttons on the front of the TV allow the viewer to control the light portals extending from behind the TV— therefore, allowing the viewer to feel in control of how and what they perceive. Conceptually, this sculpture comments on the effects of mainstream media and video/film culture on society’s perception of reality— ultimately feeding the disconnect that exists in our everyday lives due to technology.
